Spectral induced polarization of heterogeneous non-consolidated clays

چکیده

SUMMARY Clays are ubiquitously located in the Earth’s near surface and have a high impact on subsurface permeability. Most geo-electrical characterizations of clays do not take into account heterogeneous nature clay geological media. We want to better understand influence heterogeneities signature, thus we collected data set spectral induced polarization (SIP) artificial non-consolidated samples. The samples made illite red montmorillonite parallel perpendicular disposition (with respect applied electric field). Another sample is homogeneous mixture composed same volumetric fraction montmorillonite. For all samples, dominated by montmorillonite, given shape spectra (presence or lack peak at particular frequency). compared experimental with classical mixing laws complex conductance network models test how predict SIP signature such mixtures when two components known. real conductivity predicted laws, but peaks frequencies) best models. This study step forward towards characterization systems using SIP.

Spectral induced polarization of Na-montmorillonite dispersions.

Montmorillonite (Mt) clays have a high specific surface area and surface charge, which confer them remarkable adsorption properties. Nevertheless, their electrochemical and aggregation behavior are not completely elucidated because of the complexity of their microstructural and interfacial properties. In this work, the conductive and dispersive properties of Na-Mt suspensions of weight fraction...

Using a combination of genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization algorithm for GEMTIP modeling of spectral-induced polarization data

The generalized effective-medium theory of induced polarization (GEMTIP) is a newly developed relaxation model that incorporates the petro-physical and structural characteristics of polarizable rocks in the grain/porous scale to model their complex resistivity/conductivity spectra. The inversion of the GEMTIP relaxation model parameter from spectral-induced polarization data is a challenging is...

Non-Zeeman Circular Polarization of Molecular Maser Spectral Lines

We apply the anisotropic resonant scattering model developed to explain the presence of non-Zeeman circular polarization signals recently detected in the CO (J = 2 → 1) and (J = 1 → 0) transitions in molecular clouds to Stokes V spectra of SiO v = 1 and v = 2, (J = 1 → 0) masers commonly observed in evolved stars. It is found that the observed antisymmetric “S” and symmetric “∪” or “∩” shaped s...

Estimation of Chargeability and Permeability using Spectral Induced Polarization Data

Induced polarization (IP) method has been successfully implemented in investigation of groundwater, geothermal and metallic ores. From published (Nordsiek and Weller, 2008) spectral induced polarization (SIP) data, the amplitude and phase spectra have been derived. Frequencydependent impedance data sets have been calculated from these SIP data sets, which were derived for chargeability by Debye...

Apparent resistivity and spectral induced polarization in the submarine environment

Relatively few investigations have employed electrical methods in the submarine environment, which may be promising for mineral deposits or threatened by environmental problems. We have measured the electric field using both disk and bar electrodes in the sea water at three different levels: sea surface, seven meters deep, and sea bottom at a depth of ten meters, employing a 2 m spacing dipole-...
